About Holland Expat Center South

Limburg Economic Development (LED)

The municipalities in the Maastricht Region have joined forces to stimulate the economy, create new jobs, and to give the region a future.

Limburg Economic Development (LED) is the vehicle used to achieve this. A wide network involving the business community, educational and knowledge institutions, and governments. LED is seeking out opportunities, hunting down new projects, and putting the Maastricht Region on the map. LED is an 'underarching' organization, a collaboration platform driven from the bottom up between parties with their own responsibilities and competencies. This website is also a LED initiative.

By 2020, we want to achieve the following in the Maastricht region:

  • 17,000 new jobs (70% of which at a Dutch intermediate vocational education level)
  • An almost total end to unemployment
  • €8.5 extra turnover (€5 billion of which in SMEs)
  • A leading position in Europe

Recent research into the effects of LED has shown that nearly half of the acceleration factors are created by the image, by the housing and living climate, and by breaking down barriers across international borders.

For this reason, LED will be fully focused on communication and branding over the next few years.

The LED branding team has developed a strategy that provides for a strong economic position of the Maastricht Region. The cast-iron combination of innovative economics, an international location and an inspiring living environment will be garnering increasing attention over the next few years, both within the Maastricht Region and beyond.

This will lead to a grounded self-awareness and pride in the region, while outside the region the campaign will focus on highlighting the region's attractiveness in terms of careers, investments, and establishing companies.
