Vocational Education (MBO and company schools)

Eindhoven region:

  • ROC Eindhoven
    ROC Eindhoven provides an open, stimulating learning environment for both young and mature students. Attractive, practice-based programmes lead to optimal performance by students in their efforts to achieve their ambitions. They gain perspective as well as satisfaction from their studies. ROC Eindhoven highly values the contribution and commitment of its students, staff, and social partners. ROC Eindhoven has 21 schools for Vocational Education and Training (VET). These branch-specific schools provide more than 250 vocational training programmes, which can be followed on different tracks and at different levels. Tailor-made vocational training for companies can also be provided.

University of Applied Sciences (HBO)

In our region, it is possible to study various areas of expertise at a University of Applied Sciences. Most of these training institutes are listed below. If they offer an English programme in one of the technical fields prominent in our region, more info can be found in the next paragraph about International Education.

 

  • Design Academy
    With its conceptual and project-oriented approach to industrial design education, the Design Academy Eindhoven is amongst the most influential design institutes in the world, and ranks 5th on the ICON list. The Design Academy has close ties with TU/e (Eindhoven University of Technology).
  • Fontys
    At Fontys University of Applied Sciences (Fontys Hogescholen), it is possible to follow almost all higher professional education programmes at bachelors and masters level. Fontys University offers programmes in healthcare and social work, economics, business and communication, technology, visual and performing arts, logistics and transport, and education.
  • Avans Tilburg
  • Hogeschool Zuyd
  • Maastricht School of Management (MSM)

Research University (Universiteit)
  • Eindhoven University of Technology
    TU/e is a research-driven, design-oriented university that provides academic education within the engineering, science and technology sectors. TU/e is the 3rd highest rated technical university in Europe, and offers many of its programmes in English. It is a very international institution and many of its current students and PhDs are non-Dutch.
  • Maastricht University
    Maastricht University (UM) is the youngest university in the Netherlands. UM is known at home and abroad for its innovative education system, advanced research and international orientation The significance of the themes on which UM education and research are centred reaches beyond the Dutch national borders. UM can easily call itself the most international university in the Netherlands. Situated in the heart of Europe, English has a place in nearly all educational programmes, and most of its programmes are taught completely in English. In addition, much of its education and research revolves around international themes, where European issues are often central. The region creates an international atmosphere that's attractive to Dutch, international students and employees. One out of three students and 16 per cent of UM employees come from abroad. Together they represent about 70 different countries.
  • Tilburg University
    Enjoying the reputation as Europe’s best in Business, Economics, and Law, Tilburg University also specializes in Humanities and in Social Sciences. It provides high-quality education and research on a compact campus with excellent facilities. Tilburg University, founded in 1927, is a fully accredited government financed University with approximately 12.000 students. Its mission is to inspire and challenge students, faculty, staff, and alumni by providing high-quality, innovative and internationally oriented education and research.
  • RWTH Aachen University (Germany)
  • KU Leuven (Belgium)

Adult Education and Life Long Learning

  • Open University
    The Open Universiteit Nederland (Open Universiteit), which welcomed its first students in September 1984, is an independent government-funded institute for distance learning at university level. The Dutch goverment's purpose in founding the Open Universiteit Nederland was to make higher education accessible to anyone with the necessary aptitudes and interests, regardless of formal qualifications.
  • Adult vocational education
    The vast majority of MBO, in the region given by institutes mention under 'vocational education' offer a broad variety of programmes for adult education. These are, however, mostly in Dutch.
  • Ster college (ROC Eindhoven)
    The Ster College offers basic education (including teaching students to read and write); Dutch for non-native speakers; vmbo-t (pre-vocational secondary education, theoretical learning-track), havo (higher general secondary education) and vwo (pre-university secondary education), as well as educational support and personal development programmes.
  • Assessment of ealier gained competencies
    In the region, several schools at tertiary level offer a route to help adults in formalizing their knowledge and experience, together with the employer (called eerder verworven competenties EVC). The level of competences and experiences is assessed by the Competentie Ontwikkelpunt (COP). Although they have a national focus, you could check with your employer whether a personalized path with COP could help you getting necessary (Dutch) levels or grades.
