Moving is always a hectic time, and there are quite a few formalities to be completed. The exact list of what you need to do depends on your nationality, place of birth, family composition, and sometimes on your employer's choice of work permit. Whichever route you take, good preparation is vital.

What to expect:

• Moving to a new country involves bureaucracy and the Netherlands is no exception;
• Some Dutch rules and procedures will be different from those in your home country;
• Plan time to attend meetings with Dutch organisations;
• Plan time to prepare documents for these meetings;
• Communication (information) is often in Dutch.

Depending on your country of origin, you may need an entry visa, a work permit, and a residence permit. You will also need to register with the Town Hall at your new address and with the Tax Authority, which will provide you a Citizen Service Number (Burger Service Nummer, BSN).
