Religion

The Netherlands is a tolerant country, and every individual has a right to practice his/her own religion or conviction. Traditionally, the South Netherlands was strongly Roman Catholic. But during the second part of 20th century, a rapid secularization took place in the province, as it did in the rest of the country. Although there has been a big decrease in the number of people who attend church, the traditions are still part of the culture. For instance, Carnaval. Today, there is a growing number of residents who practice Islam and other religions.
