Gardening

Flowers in all colors and all varieties are available in The Netherlands -- not just tulips! Some gardens are for ornamental purposes only, and others produce food crops, sometimes in separate areas, and sometimes intermixed with the ornamental plants. Family-life gardens usually look like big play areas, with climbing racks and sandboxes, and only few flowerbeds or decorations.

There are many garden centres in the Southeast Netherlands. They sell a large variety of plants, annual and perennial flowers, trees and shrubs, roses, container gardens, hanging baskets, houseplants, water gardening, seeds and bulbs, potting mixes, soil amendments and mulch, fertilisers and chemicals, pottery, garden tools and supplies, fountains and garden decor. Some also sell pet-related products and small pets such as guinea pigs, rabbits, fish, and mice. Many centres also sell wild-bird foods, floral gifts, outdoor furniture, barbecue grills, and home decor; they may also offer landscape design and landscaping services. To find a garden centre closest to your house, you can best check the Yellow Pages.

If you need professional help, search for an official gardener (hoveniersbedrijven/ tuinierbedrijven).
