What was the most difficult part about moving to the Netherlands?
Ever-present-agenda-scheduling-addiction! The Dutch tendency to 'over plan' takes away the fun element of spontaneity.

What is your best piece of advice for other expats who have just recently moved here?
Don't get struck by the extreme oddity when suggesting a get-together with a Dutch person and finding them pulling out their agenda (or for the more modern folk, their smart-phones) to schedule a date, even weeks ahead.

What is the best advice that someone gave to you about living here?
Always hold an umbrella or a rain-coat.

What was your first impression of the Southeast Netherlands?
The Dutch are extremely direct in their communication.They may sound blunt for me sometimes, since I come from a culture where communication is more indirect and context driven.

Did you experience culture shock?
Not really, Holland is a culturally liberal and tolerant country.

How have you adjusted to living in the Netherlands?
Reading about the local Culture, Customs and Etiquette. Observing people on everyday life, and learning the Dutch language.

Some, self-learning.

Do you ride a bike?

What do you miss most from home?
I miss the warmth, openness, and hospitality of the Greeks.

What do you like the most about the Dutch culture?
The Dutch are disciplined, they dislike displays of wealth, are practical and well organized.

What is your favorite Dutch tradition?
Bicycle culture

How do you celebrate Queen's Day?
Go for a walk, always wearing something orange, and laughing with the Dutch who are completely out of control (at last)!

If you had to leave the Southeast Netherlands tomorrow, what would you miss?
The ring bells of the bikes
