Eindhoven unveils monument in honor of Ukraine

On Tuesday February 24, exactly four years after the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, a monument for Ukraine was presented at Clausplein in Eindhoven.

The monument, a bench based on the 'Czech hedgehog,' symbolizes Eindhoven's enduring solidarity with the Ukrainian people and the close bond with the Ukrainian community in the city.

The bench has been given a prominent place at Clausplein and is intended as a place for reflection, connection, and meeting. The Ukrainian designers Sofiia Bondar and Misha Mazepa designed the bench (also called 'Hedgehog Bench') based on the so-called 'Czech hedgehog,' an obstacle used to keep hostile tanks out of Kyiv.

The bench features a QR code that links to a webpage, also accessible via the link below. In the coming weeks, videos of Ukrainians and Dutch people who are actively involved in the Ukrainian community in Eindhoven will be posted there.

The monument for Ukraine is an initiative of the Foundation Ukrainians in Eindhoven and the Municipality of Eindhoven. The monument was made possible in part by the Narada Foundation.
