A Little Dirty, But Totally Worth It!
Kwalleballen is rugby’s wild cousin — played on a plowed, soaking-wet cornfield in Valkenswaard. The rules are simple: score by throwing a heavy, waterlogged sandbag into your opponent’s water pit… or by diving in with it. It’s muddy, messy, and according to participants, “a little dirty, but deliciously fun.” Each year, piles of mud-soaked clothes are left behind — beyond saving!
But Kwalleballen is more than just the game. This three-day, free-entry event takes place every April in Dommelen. Until 3 PM, teams battle for the Kwal Cup, after which a lively music festival kicks off with 7–9 top local and regional bands.
The excitement even starts earlier with The Night Before Kwalleballen at Café De Fantast, where cover bands compete for a coveted wildcard spot on the main stage.
