Philips Museum, DAF Museum, and TextielMuseum

Take a stroll into Eindhoven city center to pay a visit to the Philips Museum, which takes visitors on a tour through the company’s rich history, from its origin in 1891 as a light bulb manufacturer to its current position as a leader in health technology. Also in Eindhoven is the DAF Museum, which shows visitors young and old how a small blacksmith’s shop in 1928 developed into a leading truck manufacturer. Alternatively, head to Tilburg, which is home to the TextielMuseum, a working museum with historic production machinery still in daily operation.

Vincent van Gogh and other art museums

For art lovers, try either De Pont Museum in Tilburg, which exhibits works by Dutch and international artists, or the Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven, which boasts a vast collection including works by Picasso, Chagall, Kandinsky, El Lissitzky, Mondriaan and Appel. Less than 10km from Eindhoven city center is the village of Nuenen where you can walk in the footsteps of Brabant’s Vincent van Gogh at the Van Gogh Village Museum. Nuenen is where Vincent produced his first masterpiece, ‘The Potato Eaters’. To learn more about Vincent Van Gogh, visit the Van Gogh Church in Etten-Leur.

City museums and war museums

Also of note in Tilburg is the Stadsmuseum, which rather than having a fixed location, instead offers a range of activities and exhibitions at various locations, showing the past, present and future of Tilburg. Head to the Stedelijk Museum Breda to learn more about that city’s heritage and history. Also in Breda is the Maczek Memorial Breda, which is dedicated to the brave men and women of the 1st Polish Armored Division who, under the command of General Stanislaw Maczek, helped to liberate parts of the Netherlands during the Second World War. In Vught, you can find Camp Vught National Memorial (Nationaal Monument Kamp Vught), which is located on part of the former SS camp Konzentrationslager Herzogenbusch, also known as Camp Vught (January 1943 – September 1944). The museum encompasses several buildings and outdoor areas, with exhibitions in Dutch and English.
